Honestly I was a little disappointed in VegFest this year. I mostly go for the food and there were very few lunch options. Of the options that were available (the one food truck I wanted food from had power issues and were closed), the line as long as the Great Wall of China for the vegan nachos was totally off limits with a hungry baby so I was left with like three other options. The stand that was selling vegan burgers, which are totally my favorite, looked very dirty and unsanitary so I got ... View the Post
11 month update: Digital privacy thoughts
Catch up on previous updates here: Oliver's birth story | Month 1+2 | Month 3 | Month 4 | Month 5 | Month 6 | Month 7 | Month 8 | Month 9 | Month 10 | It's amazing how your opinion can change within the space of a month. Last month I was sad that I only had two more updates left until Oliver turned a year, and now I don't mind at all. I think I have just become so much more wary about sharing personal information about him to just anyone and everyone on the internet. I love that my ... View the Post
Yoga with baby: Itsy Bitsy Yoga by Helen Garabedian
I started doing "Itsy Bitsy Yoga" (a book by Helen Garabedian - given to me by a friend) with Ollie this week and I can't believe I waited this long to begin. I was obviously doing some of the activities throughout the day as they can be as simple as jumping your baby up and down, but I hadn't made a time to sit down and do a few poses together on the yoga mat. I skimmed the book again last weekend to refresh my memory, because I read it during pregnancy but it flew out my memory once baby was ... View the Post
Traveling as a vegan + flying with a baby
The Deane family finally got to the beach for the first time this Summer, now that it's almost over. Better late than never right!? Although we couldn't even swim in the ocean because of the Red Tide, womp womp. We flew to Orlando from Charlotte on Friday 8/24 at 5:30pm and the time worked really well for Ollie, although he had a really late night, only going down at like 9:30pm. It was so much busier flying with an almost 11 month old versus flying to South Africa with an almost 6 month old. ... View the Post
Vegan Meal Plans
Here are my meal plans for August 17 - 24: Friday: Pasta Alfredo Saturday: Leftovers Sunday: Salad Wraps (or pitas) Monday: Veggie Quesadillas Tuesday: Leftovers Wednesday: Tofu Omlette Thursday: Leftovers Friday: Airport I am trying the tofu omelet by Minimalist Baker for the second time because the first one was a flop. We ended up calling it tofu scramble because that's what it looked like. It's probably my fault because I made a few mistakes when following ... View the Post
Vegan Pantry Essentials
I absolutely love the big, American pantries. When Daniel and I got married, we lived in someone's small garden cottage at the back of their house. It had a tiny kitchen (with no oven), little nook area for our small table that my Grandfather made for us as a wedding gift, space for one couch and a desk (since we both worked and were studying at the same time) then one small room and a bathroom. It was a perfect size for us (we were 21 and 23 years old at the time) and I am afraid to say that I ... View the Post
Oliver’s 10 month update: Wanting all our food + developing his will
Catch up on previous updates: Oliver's birth story | Month 1+2 | Month 3 | Month 4 | Month 5 | Month 6 | Month 7 | Month 8 | Month 9 | This is by far my favorite post to write every month! I was going to stop when Ollie turned 12 months but that is only two posts away and I am in denial. Milestones Stands and crab walks around benches, window sills, shelves and the ottoman. Gives open-mouthed, slobbery kisses when we say “kiss-kiss.” Can understand simple commands without ... View the Post
The Joy Of Vegan Baking’s Vanilla Cupcakes + Hosting a Couple’s Baby Shower
We hosted a couple's baby shower on Saturday for some friend's in our Bible Study and it was so much fun. Very different to ladies only, but so much fun. When it's just ladies, the Mama-to-be opens the gifts while the seasoned moms chime in about each product and it's different uses along with tips and tricks. I think it is great to include the dads although, some of the advice (like how to make padsickles) that other mom's share when it's just ladies are really good to know but they keep quiet ... Introductions: Hi I’m Kendra
Hi, I'm Kendra and I'm the mom behind the lens and keyboard here at Rebelle Kitchen. I haven't ever done an introduction actually so I thought today sounded like a good day to do so. My name is Kendra-Lyn. I'm much more awkward in real life than it seems here on the blog, on my Insta and Facebook. I love chatting and having tea with friends (and lots of baby toys everywhere). I grew up in Hilton, South Africa. I have a 10 month old who has stolen my heart and flipped my life ... View the Post
Vegan Beauty Counter Products + Reading Labels
**I'm not a Beauty Counter consultant so I'm not trying to sell you anything here, I just want to share my purchases with you in case you are on the search for some vegan cruelty free products. I bought these through my cousin's fabulous wife, Julie Miller.** I was never a label reader until I became a vegetarian and now a vegan. Even to this day I thought I knew everything that I needed to look out for in terms of ingredients, but it turns out I am still learning. These are some ... View the Post
