How many times do you find yourself looking at the ingredients of something and think, "I can make that myself!?" I do that a lot!!! So, I usually take a picture of the ingredients, write them on my list for the next grocery shop, and find recipes or try make one up. I decided to do that for apple cider because A) I knew my house would smell amazing with apples bubbling in the slow cooker, and B)"Tis the season. I absolutely love all the different seasons because I get to eat and drink ... View the Post
Vegan Apple Cobbler
I honestly can't believe I had to remake a recipe and take out sugar because it was too sweet!!!! Who am I??? I had an incredibly sweet tooth growing up (mostly for chocolate bars, cakes, ice-cream etc.) but becoming a vegan really helped me because I can't just buy a candy bar (or three) in the "isle of temptation" as I check out of the grocery store. I have to go home and bake a treat if I want something yummy and vegan, unless I am at Whole Foods which is not a good idea for our budget so I ... View the Post
Vegan Thanksgiving Menu + Adopt a Turkey
With turkey as the main dish, you can see why Thanksgiving isn't high on the list of my favorite holidays, never mind the devastation during colonization BUT...I'm not here to put a dampener on your week, I'm actually excited to put together some vegan Thanksgiving options for you and me to make. Aaaand...I adopted a turkey for the first time so I had to share! Gerda was rescued by Farm Sanctuary and is now a factory farm survivor eating and living merrily. Click here to adopt a turkey and help ... View the Post
The Joyful Vegan’s Mediterranean Olive Bread
I've always been a little nervous to bake bread so when I found this recipe I thought it was a good place to start before getting out the yeast. Obviously if I had one of those KitchenAid mixers (can someone say "Christmas wishlist?") I would be way less intimidated by making my own bread, but I need to just put my big girl panties on and give the old fashioned bread a chance! I made some sourdough with a friend, who had her own starter, and that was so much fun, so I know I can do it! Let's say ... View the Post
Creamy Wild Mushroom Soup: Easy Slow-Cooker Meal
When I create my own recipes, I find myself torn between naming them what they are or adding "vegan" in the title. I'm sure by now you know that all my recipes are vegan so it seems silly to say it in every recipe, but I also want to make sure that if anyone is specifically looking for a "vegan soup," mine comes up in their search. I know how many times I've searched for vegan recipes using the word 'vegan' and it's been so helpful but it seems redundant. So what do you think? Should this ... View the Post
Morning Glory Muffins: Healthy + Vegan
I put "healthy + vegan" in the title because not all vegan food is healthy (as seen on my Instagram feed #oops) but I do obviously like healthy food like these muffins that are perfect for a snack or breakfast alternative. I have muffin mania at the moment as they are so easy to make and Oliver doesn't make as huge a mess with them(compared to watermelon) so they are easy to pack in his diaper bag for when he goes to childcare or take on a picnic. It is also a great way to get an extra boost ... View the Post
Cinnamon Peanut Butter Oats
This oat bowl is so easy but don't take your eyes off these sneaky oats while they are in the pot otherwise they will stick and burn on the bottom. Daniel usually makes the oats but I gave it a go this morning and he forgot to mention that you need to keep stirring so I got to make the mistake so you don't have to! Cinnamon Peanut Butter Oats 1 cup almond milk (or any non-dairy milk)1 cup water1 cup old fashioned oats1 tsp salt1 tsp cinnamondollop peanut butter¼ cup fruit¼ cup ... View the Post
Vegan Fresh Fruit Crisp
I will not call this a Fall Crisp because here in Charlotte, there is not even a hint of lower temperatures. Sure, my back yard is littered with leaves already, but I am in shorts and a sports tank with the fans and AC on full blast. And if someone says "transitional outfit" one more time on social media, I think I'm going to go nuts. There is nothing transitional about 94℉ with a real feel of 98℉. Here in the Deane household, my fridge is still loaded with summer berries so I thought I'd do ... View the Post
Salad In A Jar: Hello Berry + Hearty Couscous + Merry Mediterra
I grew up eating a side salad with our meals almost every night and I liked it very simple - lettuce, carrots, cucumber and feta cheese and I would have it dry without dressing (gasp!). My aunt, who lives here in Waxhaw, came to visit us in South Africa one year and brought us one of those DIY ranch dressing packets and I was hooked, I finally had 'saucy' salads. I still liked ranch when I became a vegan so I was very grateful to find out that Daiya made a vegan homestyle ranch! I have since ... View the Post
Vegan Banana Oat Pancakes For The Whole Family
Anyone else a creature of habit? Before I became a vegan, I ate the same breakfast (Pronutro) for about 26 years. I think I even ate the same lunch (ham and cheese sandwich) for that same amount of time and our dinners lacked variety as well. Becoming a vegan has opened the door to so many wonderful dishes and a wide variety of foods and meals that we never had imagined before. Having said that, I still eat the same thing for breakfast (muesli) and Ollie eats his oat cereal with pieces of fruit ... View the Post
