Hey Rebelles! Ensley here. I’m so excited about this post because it not only is all about CHRISTMAS (the only thing I like about winter), but it gives you a chance to peek inside our new place. I’ve been dying to show y’all, but was waiting until all the Christmas decorations were up. Here goes!
For starters, our 2017 Christmas card:
I ended up going with the recycled paper versions of these from Minted. I love how they turned out! Also extremely glad I didn’t pay a photographer because Elise did an amazing job making us look presentable. 2017 was an amazing year for us: I achieved a lifelong dream of teaching yoga, Patrick was promoted (after YEARS of working his a** off to get this position), we moved into our lovely new place…the list goes on and on. I truly do wake up every morning and thank God for all of my blessings (everything from being able to quit a job that wasn’t fulfilling to getting to snuggle in flannel sheets), and that Psalm 23 verse summed it up perfectly. Our cup runneth over.
I have to admit, there’s little I love more than decorating for Christmas. Maybe it’s because I lived with roommates/in other people’s houses for so many years, but I love spending a day with Patrick putting up decorations in our home. Even though I’m sad this will be the first Christmas I spend away from my parents, I’m super pumped that my brother Jack and his fianceé Michayla are flying in from Portland to spend the holidays with us. All the happy dances. Knowing they’re coming makes decorating + planning even more meaningful.
Let’s start the home tour with my favorite view in the house:
After growing up with artificial trees, I can’t tell you how much I love having a real tree. Walking into a house that smells like frasier fir each evening is something I’ll never get tired of.
I also love the “color scheme” of our tree, though it wasn’t intentional. I just bought a ton of ornaments from Target that I thought were pretty and then realized they were all metallic. The main colors are gold + silver with pops of red, pink, and blue. Metallics FTW! I also snuck some sentimental ornaments in there, like a University of Florida one, as well as some my sweet students made me over the years. This tree also makes me smile because she’s a little uneven and lopsided, but that’s the beauty of things that are REAL.
Onto the kitchen: I stole the ribbon-over-the-cabinet Christmas card display from Elise , and it’s become one of my favorite traditions. Brody and I run to the mailbox everyday when I get home from work to see whose beautiful faces we get to pin up. I use this glitter ribbon and these mini clothespins. Since you can see the kitchen everywhere in our main living area, I get to enjoy these beautiful cards all season.
This Ikea Kallax shelf is our work-in-progress bar cart/storage unit. It was our old media cabinet + bookshelf, but wouldn’t fit in the living room of our new apartment. New place, new purpose! Even though I’m not sure what to do with the top shelves just yet (hence why there are Christmas napkins, our framed Christmas card, and…a vase there), I’m loving the top. All of our beautiful wedding gifts were shoved in cabinets in our old apartment, and now I have the chance to set them out and enjoy them. Perhaps now we’ll actually have a party and use them…
Since we don’t have a fireplace, our TV/media dresser is the closest thing we have. I have to admit Christmas movies are even more fun to watch with perfect this little display. (Brody’s stocking gets me every time.) “Peace” is my favorite message of the season, and I appreciate this visual reminder every time I sit down on the couch.
Remember my dining room inspo post awhile back? Well, I found one of the chairs I wanted on a FB group for $30! Perfect timing, since we’ll be hosting Jack and Michayla + Patrick’s parents for Christmas dinner and need to upgrade from four chairs to six. (Heading to Ikea to buy the matching chair/cushions this weekend.) You know what thrills me to know end? Having to get more chairs to fit people we love around a table.
I’ve been a litttttttle obsessed with toile everything lately, so when I saw these Red Toile Santa sheets I couldn’t resist. After making fun of me for spending on anything/everything Christmas (mostly the boxwoods below), even he had to admit this was my best purchase of the season. (Let me just state for the record I did not buy all of this decor in a single year. This is years of collecting things one piece at a time.)
Boxwoods in the bathroom? Why the heck not.
Thanks for stopping by friends. Even though we rent our apartment, it really feels like home and I hope that comes through in the photos. I wish you all the peace and blessings this holiday season!
