IT’S MY BIRTHDAY!
I love birthdays and I REALLY love my birthday. 🙂 I totally that person who shouts it from the rooftops that it’s her birthday, and I’m not ashamed.Growing up, birthdays were always a big deal in our household. You woke up to singing, cards, and then got your favorite dinner and a big cake in the evening. I love hearing from so many loved ones on this day every year, whether it be on FB, a text, or phone call. Plus, I always wanted to be a princess and birthdays are like getting to be the princess for a day. (I felt the same on my wedding day. Aaaahhh the memories.)
One of my favorite podcasts (I have many) is Happier by Gretchen Rubin. I was really inspired when she and her sister made “18 for 2018” lists of eighteen goals they have this year. In that spirit, I made my own “32 for 32” list with many things I want to accomplish on this next trip around the sun.
01 | Go to Charleston at least every other month.
My yoga studio is there, and it just feels like home. I need to be consistently practicing with my teachers to be the best teacher I can be, and that means making the trek down there at least every other month. Preferably every month!
02 | Get a bike so I can…
03 | Go on bike rides
I love bike rides. Not anything super intense, but a leisurely ride around the neighborhood on a Sunday afternoon. We have those rental bikes all around our neighborhood, but I’d like one of my own.
04 | Participate in at least one sprint triathlon
I still can’t believe I did the Ramblin’ Rose last June, and I felt so strong and powerful. I’d love to do it again either in June or September.
05 | Take a cooking class with Patrick
06 | Go on a yoga retreat
One of my BFFs led her first yoga retreat this year, and it’s totally one of my life goals to do the same. However, if I’m going to lead retreats I need to experience them first!
07 | Go to my first music festival (Forecastle)
We’re going with my BFF Ashley and her husband this July.
08 | Go to Asheville Yoga Festival
I’ve never been to a yoga festival (honestly what HAVE I done) and my teachers will be there. Why the heck not.
09 | Practice yoga 3-4 times/week
In order to be a great teacher I need to be practicing consistently. Even though my home studio is in Charleston, I keep reminding myself that I can learn from every teacher and every class. Plus, my body and mind need it.
10 | Limit social media
Y’all I have been so bad lately about scrolling nonstop. Afterwards, I feel a little braindead and like I just wasted time I could have been spending on something I enjoy more. I love the connection that social media brings, but I think 15-20 minutes a day maximum would be best.
11 | Outline my first book
I’m going to a class called “Write Your First Book” in April that I’m really excited about. I’ve had an idea for a fiction story on my heart for awhile now, so why the heck not. My #1 life dream is to write a book, so I may as well get started!
12 | Publish an article outside of Rebelle Kitchen
It’s so easy to write over here on this lil’ blog where I can just write what I want. To challenge myself as a writer I’d like to pitch a few articles to outside publications. Eek!
13 | Get involved in a yoga teacher training
14 | Bake my own bread
My Mimi passed down her bread machine to me last year, and it’s since been collecting dust in the pantry. I’m going to try my hand and baking my own bread instead of the store-bought kind wrapped in tons of plastic.
15 Finish the Outlander series
I FINALLY got into this year and am officially hooked. 🙂
16 | Plan weekend trips
I am NOT a planner and get irritated with myself often about it. I’m totally guilty of sitting at home by myself pouting because I just wait around to be invited somewhere. No more! I’m going to be better about seeing friends and putting things on the calendar.
17 | Be a guest on a podcast
Because why the heck not.
18 | Get Rebelle’s Instagram to 1,200+ followers
19 | Send birthday cards
20 | Try some new recipes
Cooking used to be a passion of mine and now it feels like a chore. I need to switch it up and get excited again because if you know me you know I love food. Mmmmmm food.
21 | Attempt vegan baking
Back when I first became vegan my first attempts at this were, um, horrible. Imagine a cake that no one wants to eat because it looks disgusting. I’m feeling brave enough to try again with the help of some vegan baking cookbooks.
22 | Drink a gallon of water a day
I’ve been doing this since my liver cleanse and it’s been 100% life changing! I sip it throughout the day and feel so much better. I’m still finding myself getting thirsty, which shows how dehydrated I really was. Yikes.
23 | Enjoy the slow lane
My life these days is no longer go, go, go. Since the world rewards busy, sometimes I get down on myself. Instead, I’m going to feel grateful that my life has taken this path and enjoy every second.
24 | Learn to play tennis
We live right by a park with public courts, and this would be such a fun way to spend time with Patrick on a beautiful summer evening.
25 | Explore with Brody
Since we moved to a new neighborhood, walks with Brody have been more fun. I want to make more of an effort to find new routes and new places to walk with him to keep things interesting.
26 | Visit museums in Charlotte
Because I never do. I even bought Patrick and I a museum membership for Christmas and we haven’t gone. What is wrong with me?
27 | Walk Uptown
I’ve lived in Charlotte for years and barely know my way around Uptown. I want to just stroll and explore one day until I get the lay of the land.
28 | Find a spiritual home in Charlotte
This could be a whole other post, but it’s something my heart yearns for. Right now I’m a little too spiritual for church and a little too religious for spiritual centers. I’d love to find a spiritual home that feeds my soul and creates a community.
29 | Write notes of gratitude
30 | Make the guest room beautiful
31 | Buy fresh flowers
32 | Give up TV for a week
Even though I read a TON, I am totally guilty of turning on Netflix in the evening and not getting up for hours. I find myself doing this a little too often lately, so I’d like to detox to motivate myself to do other things.
Thanks for the love y’all! I’d love to see your lists!
