Confession: a tiny part of me hates football season.
Anyone who has ever seen me try to catch a ball knows I am not an athlete. Growing up, all the other kids were sucking on orange slices during their soccer games, and I had my nose buried in a book. You know that feeling of being picked last for the team? That was me…every gym class. (Seriously, can the gym teachers just make the teams so I have one less issue to discuss with a therapist?)
In college, I grew to love going to Gator games thanks to my group of besties who are die-hard fans. Die-hard, y’all. Like stood in the stands dejected and crying when we lost, which luckily wasn’t that often back then. I was just there for the snacks, beer, and foam fingers, but they didn’t seem to mind.
I still love watching Gator games now that I’m all adult, but I’m definitely not die-hard. I enjoy going to a watching party now and then, or having the game on in the background, but I don’t plan my weekends around it. Patrick, on the other hand, roots for two college football teams in addition to being a major Panthers fan.
Y’all, I cannot watch three football games every Saturday and then watch the Panthers on Sunday. I don’t have the attention span. But marriage is about compromise (or so I’ve heard), which means that sometimes Patrick goes to yoga with me, and sometimes I watch Panthers games with him.
Luckily I’m almost as motivated by a cute outfit as I am by snacks, which means the opportunity to wear this blue + white combo has a good chance of getting me to a Panthers game. (Or to the couch with the game on TV. #moresnacks.) Y’all have heard me blab on about my love for this color combo all summer, but rest assured it remains strong. The combo of stretchy skinny jeans + a flowy piko is perfect for tailgates or heading to a friend’s house to watch. I’m also a little obsessed with the accessories in this outfit, which I can already tell will get a lot of use this season.
NOTES:
Accessories, accessories, accessories. Y’all…for real. I definitely under accessorized in my summer capsule. Lesson learned! This vegan leopard clutch may be my best purchase ever, and I specifically chose these slides because they’re sophisticated while still being comfy AF. These gold aviators are polarized and less than $50. All three of these items go with nearly everything in my fall capsule, making them worth every penny.
Stick with what you love. I love blue + white and I love leopard. The fact that this outfit has both? Perfection. Remember that style has zero to do with what’s trendy and everything to do with what makes you feel amazing.
It’s all about balance. I can handle tight skinnies when they’re balanced with a flowy top in a great length. No pulling or tugging over here. Billowy top = more room for snacks. Sounds good to me.

Ensley !!! Blue is your color , you look amazing in this outfit .
Thanks Mal! I used to hardly ever wear it (except maybe to Gator games), but now I want it in every outfit!
I just stumbled upon this blog, and I am LOVING it. I love all things preppy and Lilly, but I’m also a bit of a crunchy hippie. And I also attended UF, and I can totally identify with your thoughts on football games….all the tailgate fun that surrounds them is a lot more fun than sitting on the couch at home, watching from 100s of miles away.
Hi Lauren! Welcome. Sounds like you’ll fit right in over here. 🙂 Tailgates were some of the best memories of my life-soak up every minute. Thrilled to have another Gator along for the ride!
