Another holiday, another chance for me to act like a total Scrooge.
Even now that I’m married, I still feel pretty “meh” about Valentine’s Day. I don’t really understand the point, and I find heart decorations annoying. Sappy cards make me feel awkward and slightly nauseous, and none of the “fancy” restaurants in Charlotte have vegan options. Womp womp.
Despite my Debbie Downer attitude, I still managed to find someone who wanted to marry me. That same someone also enjoys celebrating Valentine’s Day (cue the “awwwww”) and actually deserves a sappy card. Instead of an overpriced prix fixe dinner on 2/14, we’re going to do dinner at home followed by a trip to the climbing gym. Exactly my kind of date.
The one thing I can get down with about Valentine’s Day? Gifts. (Probably why I’m such a big fan of Christmas as well.) All the gifts. I’ll take chocolate and flowers and anything else you can come up with. My husband buys nothing for himself, so it’s super easy to find the perfect gift for him. (Life hack: keep a note on your phone with gift ideas as they pop into your head!) I’m not as easy to buy for (see paragraphs 2 and 3), but Patrick still usually hits the nail on the head. Last Valentine’s Day he got me a diffuser and essential oils. The man knows me well.
Below, we’ve rounded up some of our favorite gifts for those vegan Valentines in your life. The best part? They all support some great animal charities, such as PETA and Farm Sanctuary. Even your crankiest loved ones (me) will love a box of vegan chocolate truffles, a cozy pullover, and a yummy candle. Trust.
Clockwise, from top left:
01 | Greeting cards | With messages from “I whaley like you” to “You’re the cat’s meow”, keep these on hand for those times when you need to jot a quick love note.
02 | Peta’s Shine with Compassion Vanilla Lavender Candle. Did someone say “candlelit bath for two”?
03 | I Heart Ewe mug | This mug is so adorable that I just can’t even.
04 | Valentine’s Day truffles | Vegan. Truffles. Need I say more?
05 | Almond Milk Saves Lives tee | It does, and it’s on sale for <$15. That’ll leave plenty of room in the budget for an almond milk chai latte. Heck, get a venti!
06 | Viva Las Vegan lip balm in Vanilla Bean | Pucker up!
Need another great gift idea? For a one-time donation of $30, you can symbolically “adopt” a Valentine pair at Farm Sanctuary: Reggie & Lola pigs, Stevie & Jessica alpacas, or Corrie & Ellis sheep. I dare you to click that link and not “awww” at the screen.
