My son, Oliver, didn’t have juice until he got sick when he was about 15 months old and the only thing he would drink was my Rooibos Cran-Peach Cooler. I say my cooler but the recipe actually came from my mom who tasted something similar at a friend’s house in South Africa when she was visiting, and decided to make her own version when she got back to the States. So, thanks mom for letting me share this delicious recipe here on Rebelle Kitchen! Juice is just a “sometimes” drink for us but at least when we drink this I have a peace of mind knowing that it doesn’t contain 50 million grams of sugar. I definitely try to model and encourage water to be our “everyday” drink.
A funny story about water though, we were reading the “Wibbly Pig” book the other day and on the one page it has a picture of a cup of juice and a cup of milk and it says something like, “Wibbly Pig likes to drink milk. What do you like to drink?” So, I pointed at the cups and asked Oliver which one he liked, but he said “water.” Haha I was surprised at his answer but thought it was so funny!
I wanted some popsicles that were quick and easy so I tried the Rooibos Cran-Peach cooler in the popsicle molds and they turned out so well! We have eaten them all week at the pool. I take them in the molds and Oliver likes me to bite little pieces off the popsicle and put it in the mold for him to “drink” out of. He knows what he wants these days and is learning how to communicate that with me. I feel like his translator sometimes because I know what he is saying (most of the time) and have to relay that to anyone else who is having a hard time understanding what he says.
A lot of people ask me if Oliver has an accent and the answer is yes, he has the same accent as me. As long as he is home with me he will have our accent, but as soon as he goes to school he is going to com home saying, “Hi ya’ll!”
This recipe is so simple and easy (only 2 ingredients!) and the rooibos tea really helps soften the sweet taste of the juice. Who needs all those grams of sugar in typical juice, especially when giving this to kids, so I love that it’s half juice, half tea and you can STILL water it down even further for the little ones.
Rooibos Cran-Peach Ice Tea
- 4 rooibos tea bags
- 1 bottle Ocean Spray White Cran-Peach juice
- Pour out half the juice (about 32FL OZ /1L) into a jug and set aside.
- Boil 2L (64 FL OZ) of water in a kettle or pot and use 4 teabags to seep for 2 -3 minutes.
- Pour 1L (32FL OZ) of the rooibos tea into each of the juice containers to make a ½ juice, ½ tea mixture.
- Stir and chill in the fridge and use within 7-10 days.
